Aspiring artists and creatives are being asked to submit designs for the Festival of Architecture finale in November.
Applications are now open for Dundee’s “most exciting and innovative designers” to submit work that will be projected onto the side of the Old Steeple in the city centre as part of the Christmas light festivities.
The festival finale will run for two nights on November 18-19.
The stipulations surrounding the competition mean designers must come up with a concept “of a scale, impact and ambition that will be remembered and provoke excitement, wonder and spectacle”.
The winner will be given a budget of up to £5,000 to create the large scale art work and which will be decided by a panel comprising of members of Unesco City of Design Dundee, Dundee City Council, RIAS Festival of Architecture 2016, Dundee Institute of Architects and V&A Dundee.
As well as being designed to reflect the local area, organisers want the design to inspire visitors to make the trip to Dundee specifically
An estimated 25% of the audience viewing the design will have travelled to the city from across Scotland, and 10% from the rest of the UK.
Annie Marrs, project coordinator for Unesco City of Design, said the competition was a fantastic opportunity to support local designers and creative types.
She said: “We are looking for designs from across the board and applications are open to anyone with an interest in taking the next steps in their design career.
“The design should be visibly stimulating and could come in any form, for example, it could be a game or an interactive piece of art.
“It should respond to the architecture of the city and of the old steeple.
“We are hoping for a lot of submissions and we would like to see as many varied entry’s as we can.
“This is a great opportunity for local designers to have their work showcased.”
Applicants have to be from within the Dundee city region, with artists from Perth and North Fife also being invited to take part.
The closing date for submissions is Monday August 22, and can be made via the city of design website.
