“Design can change the world” – Dundee V&A excitement ramped up by new video

What is a design museum, and what can it do for a city and a country?

That question is brilliantly answered in this new video showcasing what is in store for Dundee when the new V&A museum opens in 2018.

Dominated by striking footage of Kengo Kuma’s building taking shape at the waterfront, it also features the views of local and national designers and hears why they believe the V&A will have such a positive effect for Dundee and Scotland.

Jaguar director of design Ian Callum says: “Nations can live and survive culturally on design…Design can change the world. It can change the way people live; it can change the economics of a country.

“I think Scotland needs a base for design that people can go and view and understand and enjoy and be part of. And I’m sure the V&A will do that.”

Amid footage of some of the community projects that are already taking place, fashion designer Hayley Scanlan describes her excitement at knowing children across the city and beyond will grow up with the museum there to inspire them.

Fans of the project have expressed their delight at seeing the V&A effect come ever closer.

Rosamund Worrall said: “A really inspiring video about the V&A Dundee. It’s a really exciting project.”

Jill Calder Iadded: “Fantastic video – very excited about the museum opening in the city where I was born and bred! What an exciting building too”.

Perhaps hinting at the visitor boost the museum will bring, Debbie Bentley added: “Great video. Made me homesick for Scotland”, while Linsey McIntosh said: “This is spectacular. Go Dundee!”
