“I’m a frustrated Banksy” – Straw bale artist Fleur gets spray paint out again to create comical Angus display

An Angus farmer has brightened up her field with a menacing display of characters.

Fleur Baxter’s wacky creations have previously included a Pokemon-themed display and a Minions-inspired attempt.

She has  got the spray paint out again to create Dennis the Menace, Gnasher, Desperate Dan and a cow pie to brighten up the landscape just off the B961 near Monikie Primary School.

Mrs Baxter, of East Skichen Farm, last year created an emoji-based display, with smiley, sad and angry faces painted on to bales.

“I decided to mark The Beano’s 80th anniversary with a special tribute to Dennis and Gnasher,” she said.

“Once I got started I wanted to include Desperate Dan and it really just took off from there.

“The reaction has been fantastic and it just goes to show how popular the characters still are after all these years.

“I had been thinking about trying to create the Dundee V&A from hay bales but I wasn’t sure it would stand out.

“I’m a frustrated Banksy and I love coming up with these creations every year.

“I’ve got an over-active artistic mind and I’m already thinking about next year’s theme.

“I’m giving nothing away though – if I told you I’d have to kill you!”

Despite her talented work, Fleur doesn’t have a background in art but took up the spray painting to give everyone a giggle.

She got creative with straw bales in September 2014 with a Minions display which had a referendum theme with the film stars holding Saltire and Union flags.

After noticing people were being photographed near the displays, she also created a Christmas display which featured Santa, a snowman and Rudolph pulling a sleigh.

The bales have been praised and like by hundreds of people after being featured on the Strange Places in Scotland Facebook page.
