The world of art makes its mark in Dundee in early summer. The West End Art Group is holding an exhibition, Spiritual Awakening, at Dundee Botanic Gardens June 29 -July 7.
At the other end of town, the Broughty Ferry Art Society is holding its 40th annual exhibition in the Scout Halls in Broughty Ferry from June 27-July 7.
The West End Art Group have been painting together for well over ten years. In this time they have gone from painting reality in the early years, to stepping outside the box on an unknown journey but ready to capture images from deep inside the mind where all the rules of good art no longer exist.
Summer skies in the Highlands can be black, sycamore trees can be red, shades of grey for figures looks great, and why not save the bright colours for a winter landscape. As one swan flies through a starlit galaxy, Outlander’s Claire and Jamie have gone to Paris, but another student is on a spiritual journey around Scottish distilleries, while Frida Kahlo has a visit to the Taybridge Bar.
When artists paint freely, allowing the mind freedom to explore, the results can be quite breath taking. This exhibition showing the past year’s creations from our humble students is sheer joy.
