Looking for something to keep the wee (and not so wee) ones entertained during the Easter holidays? Look no further!

From Monday 30 March until Friday 10 April Dundee Rep will be bringing stories to life, with family shows suitable for kids of all ages.

Here’s what to expect from Children’s Festival 2020.

Enjoy a roar-some dragon-filled adventure

The festival opens with Zog on Mon 30 – Tue 31 March.

Large in size, and keen in nature, Zog is eager to win a golden star at Madam Dragon’s school, where dragons learn all the things that dragons need to know.

Zog tries so very hard, perhaps too hard, and he bumps, burns and roars his way through years one, two and three.

Luckily, the plucky Princess Pearl patches him up ready to face his biggest challenge yet – a duel with knight Sir Gadabout the Great!

The smash-hit stage adaptation from Freckle Productions is back in 2020 and promises to be bigger, brighter and more roar-some than ever before!

With brand new songs from Joe Stilgoe (The Jungle Book, The Midnight Gang) and directed by Emma Kilbey, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved Zog is a magical production for all ages.

Meet your favourite fairytale characters

Next, on Thu 2 – Fri 3 April, is balletLORENT’s The Lost Happy Endings – an original story by Carol Ann Duffy retold as dance theatre for family.

Deep in the forest lives Jub, a magical girl with six fingers on each hand. Her job is to guard the Happy Endings to stories and fairytales.

But one day an otherworldly Witch steals them, and at bedtime, the stories are destroyed.

Goldilocks changed the locks on the cottage of the three bears, Cinderella’s foot is now too big for the glass slipper, Little Red Riding Hood is gobbled up by the wolf and Pinocchio’s nose never stops growing!

As the Witch disappears with the stolen Happy Endings it is up to Jub to save the night, encountering many beloved fairytale characters and woodland creatures in her quest.

Full of energy, emotion and visual magic this family show is the one to watch!

It features an original score composed by Murray Gold, with set design by Neil Murray and narrated by Joanna Lumley.

Travel all the way to the moon

The festival closes with a show for very young audience members on Fri 10 April.

The acclaimed Shaper/Caper’s Paper Moon is a delightful and memorable adventure show for under 5s featuring beautiful set and costume design by Janis Hart.

The moonlight is beautiful, shining across the bedroom floor as Poppy Diddle dozes off. But is all as calm as it seems?

Suddenly, Poppy wakes up to discover that the MoonMoo (the cow that jumped over the moon) has got stuck on the Moon! Poppy’s mission is clear and she needs your help to rescue MoonMoo!

Will you be Poppy’s friend at Astronaut School and help her build paper rockets to get to space?

Join Poppy and her dog Peppy on this wonderful adventure as she launches across the canvas sky, at the speed of light, towards the Paper Moon.

Throughout the show, there are lots of opportunities for children and adults alike to join in Poppy’s journey.
