From Indian food to quick sandwiches, Dundee has a range of great lunch venues to grab a tasty bite any day of the week.
Whether you have a busy day at work or plan to sit down with friends, there are loads to choose from in and around the city centre.
Here are some of the best Dundee lunch spots.
Vegana
Turkish-born chef Nili opened Vegana in April 2023 because she struggled to find healthy vegetarian options in Dundee – so she made her own.
There is no meat on the menu and lots of vegan options as well, all made fresh by Nili every day.
Heavily inspired by Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine, Vegana offers wraps, baguettes, toasties, jacket potatoes, burgers, soups and salad boxes.
We would recommend trying Nili’s shakshuka, a tasty filling with aubergine, onion, pepper and tomato.
Opening times: Monday to Saturday 8am – 5pm (6pm on Friday)
Address: 127 Nethergate, Dundee DD1 4DP
The Auld Tram
An original Dundee horse-drawn tram – which operated in the 1870s and is one of the oldest examples in existence today – houses coffee and sandwich bar The Auld Tram.
Sister restaurant to Bridgeview Station at on Riverside Drive, The Auld Tram serves up high-quality soups and bloomer sandwiches as well as gourmet teas, coffees and soft drinks.
With huge sandwiches handmade to order, this is a beloved lunch spot for both locals and tourists passing through.
It’s cash only, though, so make sure you come prepared. Our favourite fillings include ploughman’s and tuna mayo.
Opening times: Monday to Saturday 8am – 4pm
Address: 54 Commercial Street, Dundee DD1 2AT
Stenecki
Stenecki was previously known as The Daily Grind and now serves up Polish fusion dishes.
Rebranded by new owner Goska Kidd in July, the menu is creative, full of Scottish breakfast and lunch classics with a Polish twist.
Check out the sourdough bruschetta with whipped goats cheese or, if you have a sweet tooth, the apple fritter pancakes.
Address: 18a Exchange Street, Dundee DD1 3DL
Jim’s Delhi Club
Fancy some homemade Indian food for lunch? Jim’s Delhi Club is a great spot for some Indian food with a Western twist.
Open two days a week, this delicatessen keeps a very limited menu of three or four items to choose from with the option to sit in or takeaway, and it’s walk-in only.
Veggie and halal eaters can also enjoy what Jim’s has to offer, with vegan alternatives for many of the menu items.
The menu changes monthly, keeping you on your toes, as you never know what you’ll get.
Opening times: Wednesday 12pm – 6pm, Thursday 2pm – 8pm
Address: 72 Albert Street, Dundee DD4 6QH
Wee Mexico
If you love Mexican as much as we do, Wee Mexico should definitely be on your list of lunchtime eateries.
Serving up spicy Mexican food to enjoy on the go, Wee Mexico has a range of options including nachos, tacos, burritos and quesadillas to enjoy. It also caters for halal, veggie and vegan diets.
We’d recommend the king burrito or the mucho nachos, if it’s your first time at Wee Mexico.
Opening times: Monday to Sunday 11.30am – 10pm (9.30pm on Sunday)
Address: 134a Nethergate, Dundee DD1 4ED
