Too Good To Go: Was my £3.59 bag from Casella and Polegato in Perth worth the trip?

I have to admit, travelling to Perth to save some food going to waste is never my first reason to visit the beautiful city.

But when part of my job is to review Too Good To Go bags, then it is certainly a great way to explore the city centre and finally visit Casella and Polegato on George Street.

I have been keen to visit this venue for the longest time after hearing about the Italian bakery in Perth that sells freshly made bread, as well as sweet treats for their customers to purchase.

The quirky exterior of the takeaway cafe has a welcoming feel to it, which is then bolstered by the friendly staff members serving inside.

I’d ordered a £3.59 bag on the Too Good To Go app and crossed my fingers for some fresh bread to enjoy with my supper.

I was handed a large sustainable brown bag filled with goodies for me to enjoy, and so I eagerly headed home to see what was inside.

What was in my mystery £3.59 bag?

Upon emptying the contents I was shocked to find three different loaves of bread as well as a filled focaccia slice.

My focaccia slice was packed with Mediterranean vegetables including olives, capers, mushrooms and roast peppers. as well as mozzarella and a tomato sauce.

I felt this would be the perfect lunchtime snack for someone who works in Perth and is looking for a tasty dish to eat on-the-go. It would be especially fitting for those who love a freshly made sandwich with an Italian twist.

As for the bread, upon taking the clingfilm off I found the variety of breads included everything from an organic rye loaf, an organic ciabatta loaf and a focaccia loaf, too.

General pricing of items

I have estimated the prices based on Casella and Polegato’s online website, where you can also purchase their delicious goods to figure out how much of a saving I made on each item.

Each one is individually priced as stated below.

  • 1 x focaccia loaf: £2.85
  • 1 x organic rye loaf: £3.95
  •  1 x organic ciabatta: £3.95
  • 1 x olive and cheese focaccia slice: £2.80

Total cost of bag: £3.59

Total cost of goods: £13.55

Total savings: £9.96

Was it worth it?

I could tell that each item I had received was freshly made and I was beyond thrilled with the saving of almost £10.

Supporting independent venues like Casella and Polegato is part of the reason I enjoy using the Too Good To Go app, in that you can visit these new places and try their offering at a reduced price.

As for the amount of bread I received, I decided to drop some off to a friend down the road who I knew would enjoy it with her husband and son.

Needless to say, sharing the food from my bags is always a bonus, and having a fresh loaf of bead to accompany the dinner I ate with my family went down a treat.

Having tried their goods, I will certainly be visiting Casella and Polegato again and would urge others to try their goods, either through the Too Good To Go app, or if they are passing through the city centre.
