If you haven’t already noticed, Bayne’s The Family Bakers has a lot of shops dotted across the Tayside and Fife region.
The business actually started as a butchery firm, which then progressed to becoming focused on offering baked goods, transforming into a bakery business in 1964.
The third generation family baker recently popped up on my Too Good To Go app for the first time, and, having never visited one of the shops, I thought it was about time I did.
I hopped in my car the other day to make my way to their Perth branch on Rannoch Road – there are currently three outlets in the city alone.
As with any Too Good To Go bag, the contents of the bag always remains a mystery until the goods have been retrieved, but I was hopeful that I’d manage to secure some tasty treats from Bayne’s Bakery.
As I ran up to the shop, which was almost closing by the time I got there, I managed to just make the pick up time. The bakery filled with freshly baked cakes, pastries, pies and sandwiches, so I was feeling confident my bag would be a good one.
After having a quick chat with the staff members and confirming I’d collected my bag on the app, I was handed a large white bag full of goods, as well as a cake box.
I was quite surprised to be handed what would normally be classed as two mystery bags, so I had an incline the value for money would, hopefully, be good.
What was inside my £3.50 mystery bag?
As I arrived home, I emptied the contents to find 16 items which included a mixture of savoury and sweet products, all for just £3.50
On the savoury front I received two Scotch pies, two wheaten scones, one chicken mayonnaise baguette and one traditional morning loaf of bread.
As for the sweet treats I had the pleasure of enjoying one apple puff, two custard slices, one jam trifle, two chocolate eclairs and four treacle scones.
I was beyond surprised at both the quality and quantity of the food, with it being enough to feed a small family for lunch, with the option of dessert of course.
General price of items
I have estimated the price of items based on the prices I took a note of in the shop.

- 4 x treacle scones: £2.50
Total cost of bag: £3.50
Total cost of goods: £18.90
Total savings: £15.40
Was it worth the trip?
Considering I made a saving of more than £15, I was very happy with my Too Good To Go purchase from Bayne’s Bakery.
As well as this excellent saving, the amount of food I received make the trip very worthwhile for myself and my family.
Having tried the eclairs and bread I found the quality of food to be good considering the lower prices of the items compared to other bakeries I have tried.
As a result, I would definitely consider dropping into Bayne’s Bakery for a quick lunch next time I visit Perth.
As for the remainder of the items that didn’t suit my halal dietary requirements, I dropped them off to a friend who could enjoy them.
During the cost of living crisis, buying these cheaper alternatives really can help take the burden off buying ingredients and cooking a full meal, and is something I recommend trying.
