In this week’s Foodies on Foot I decided to head down to Clepington Road in Dundee to try the popular pizza takeaway firm, Pizzburg.
Having read rave reviews on Facebook about the business I thought it was about time I tried it myself to see if it really is worth its weight in gold.
With the cost of living crisis, takeaways like Pizzburg are struggling more than ever with the price of raw ingredients, and, as a result, are being forced to increase their prices.
Polish owner Marcin Bors explained that since opening in April his electricity bills have doubled from £200 to £400, and although it can get busy he is not in a position to employ another person.
Due to the treacherous weather this week, I took a seat inside the takeaway and I decided to film my Foodies on Foot experience indoors.
Although Pizzburg is not a sit-in venue, Marcin has kept a seat for those who are waiting for their orders or elderly customers who visit once a week and would prefer to sit-in. Let’s get to the order and my verdict on the four dishes I sampled.
The order at Pizzburg
Verdict: Honey and mustard burger
Starting off with the big honey and mustard burger, this was indeed pretty large and so made me a little more willing to pay the price.
Inside the burger bun I found lettuce, two gherkins, two pieces of fried chicken, two slices of cheese and a honey and mustard sauce on top.
When ordering a burger you can choose between barbecue, buffalo, spicy and honey and mustard sauces.
Biting into it, I tasted the soft bun followed by the crispy chicken covered in the sweet and tangy sauce. I have to say I was surprised at how nice this burger tasted and I felt it would be enough as a meal on its own.
I really liked the flavour of this, and for takeaway food the presentation was pretty decent, too.

Verdict: Supreme pizza
Next up was the 10-inch supreme pizza which was a traditional margherita pizza topped with pepperoni, chicken, onion, pepper and mozzarella cheese.
This pizza was again quite large for one person and so I would definitely say this is a dish for sharing with family or friends.
I tasted that traditional tomato pizza flavour with the mixed herbs on top, along with the crunchy peppers.
The pizza wasn’t overly seasoned due to the pepperoni being quite salty itself, so I felt it was perfectly balanced in terms of flavour.
I like a bit of spice in my food and I felt if this dish had a bit more spice to it, that it would have been perfect for me.

Verdict: Cajun fries
The sides are usually the items that fill out a meal and in this case I thought these Cajun fries would be perfect.
I first noticed how many there were in the bag, which was great to see, although I wouldn’t technically define these as fries, rather hand-cut chips.
They were fully loaded with Cajun seasoning ensuring every inch of each chip was covered – this I loved.
I really enjoyed the spiciness of these chips but wished they were a bit more crispy, so they lost a review point as a result.

Verdict: 10 mini doughnuts with chocolate sauce
Last on my list of items to try were the 10 mini doughnuts for dessert which came with a choice of strawberry, chocolate or toffee sauce.
When I imagined these doughnuts I thought of mini doughnut puffs rather than whole mini doughnuts, but they came with an entire pot of the chocolate sauce I had chosen.
Biting into the baked goods they tasted soft, but very cakey, and they resembled something you would buy at a supermarket.
As for the chocolate sauce it was very gooey making it easy to pour over the doughnuts, and not overly sweet so I could still enjoy them. Overall this was my least favourite dish and is something I wouldn’t order again.
