Tayside Cancer Support (TCS), based at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, believes that volunteers are key to their success and will be holding an information evening on September 29, 7pm-9pm at Dundee Voluntary Action, Constitution Road , Dundee.
The charity aims to offer support, valuable information and befriending for anyone affected by cancer in Tayside and has been helping people since 1994.
So how can you help? The charity has just relaunched and is looking for volunteers for a training course later in the autumn.
The charity’s free, confidential, one-to-one befriending service for those affected by cancer in the Tayside area is provided by trained volunteer befrienders and offered to people referred by health professionals, as well as others who may benefit from the service.
The befriending contact may be by telephone or face to face depending on each individual’s circumstances and needs. Either way, it can help to have a friendly, non-judgemental ear. After all, a problem shared is a problem halved!
Meanwhile TCS’s support groups offer support, friendship and reassurance as well as therapies (including reiki, reflexology and massage) and other group activities which may include talks and demonstrations depending on what the group members choose to fit in with their needs.
If you feel that you would like to help in any way, please come along and say hello or alternatively ,if you want to find out more, just call 01384 740468 or visit our website at www.taysidecancersupport.co.uk
