The hard work and efforts made by NHS Tayside staff throughout the pandemic have been recognised at a glittering awards ceremony.
The health board’s STAR Awards saw a host of individual members of staff recognised.
And at the special event, an additional award dedicated to all NHS Tayside staff was presented.
The STAR Awards featured nine categories each with a gold, silver and bronze winner.
Around 200 people attended the event which was also streamed on NHS Tayside’s Facebook page.
Meet the STAR award winners
Gold winner in the Young Achiever category was Jenna Grant, Healthcare Support Worker, Maternity, Ninewells.
Other winners in the Young Achiever category were:
- Silver: Judith Murray, midwife, Ninewells.
- Bronze: Sarah Heatley, speech and language Therapist, Ninewells.
Inspiring Educator/Trainer
Gold winner in the Inspiring Educator/Trainer category was Lynne Sheridan, advanced physiotherapy practitioner, pain clinic, Ninewells.
Other winners in the Inspiring Educator/Trainer category were:
- Silver: Sandra Macmaster, highly specialist clinical physiologist, neurophysiology, Ninewells.
- Bronze: Cameron Rough, professional & practice development nurse, Ninewells.
One of the Gold winners in the Innovation and Improvement category was Mr Graeme Nicol.
Dr David Nicoll, consultant orthopaedic surgeons, Ninewells, was also named as a Gold winner in the same category.
Other winners in that category were:
- Silver: Learning disability intensive support service, Murray Royal Hospital.
- Bronze: Angus integrated mental health north and south teams.
Gold winners in the Global Citizenship Award category was Dr Mudher Al-Khairalla, consultant, respiratory, Perth Royal Infirmary.
Other winners in the Global Citizenship Award category were:
- Silver: Matt Hough, consultant, plastic surgery, Ninewells.
- Bronze: Lorna Strachan, occupational therapy team lead, learning disabilities, Claverhouse.
In the Clinical Staff Award category, Elaine Wood, senior charge nurse, forensic psychiatry, Murray Royal Hospital was named Gold winner.
- Silver: Emma Sullivan, physician associate, respiratory, Ninewells.
- Bronze: Dr Matt Lambert, stroke consultant, medicine for the elderly, Royal Victoria Hospital.
Bronwen Hughes, activity coordinator, medicine for the elderly, Royal Victoria Hospital, was named Gold winner in the Support Staff category.
Other winners in the Support Staff Award category were:
- Silver: Zaneta Rejszel, support services assistant, Murray Royal Hospital.
- Bronze: Elaine Conway, receptionist, CAMHS, centre for child health.
Work of Covid units recognised
The Gold STAR Award for the Clinical Team was given to the Covid high dependency unit.
In the same category, the other winners were:
- Silver: Covid intensive care Unit
- Bronze: Covid vaccination team
Support Teams recognised
The Gold award in the Support Team category was won by the Medical Microbiology team.
The other winners in the Support Team category were:
- Silver: Communications and engagement team.
- Bronze: Property department.
Donald is Unsung Hero
In the Unsung Hero category, Donald Campbell, consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Ninewells, was named as Gold winner.
Other winners in the Unsung Hero category were:
- Silver: Carrie Todd, staff nurse, cardiology, Ninewells.
- Bronze: Lynne Hamilton, public health vaccination programme director, Kings Cross.
Staff are a ‘shining example’
At the awards event health board chair Lorna Birse-Stewart paid tribute to all staff.
“Our staff have been a shining example of the work carried out in Tayside every day.
“The awards give us the opportunity to congratulate not just our finalists.
“But they also give us the chance to recognise and sincerely thank each and every member of staff across Tayside for their ongoing hard work.”

“Every single person in NHS Tayside has played an integral part in our response to the pandemic and I am incredibly proud of them all,” Lorna continued.
