Following the success of the Great Perthshire Tattie Run, a new race is launching to help locals kickstart a healthy 2023.
Organisers of the first ever Great Perthshire Last Mince Pie Run are encouraging people to sign up now for the fun day out taking place on January 2, 2023.
It’s hoped the race will be an event for those who want to improve their health or get exercising in 2023, and motivate people to kickstart their New Year’s resolutions after the indulgent Christmas period.
‘That’s the last mince pie I’m going to eat’
Organiser Terry Crossley says: “The idea of the Great Last Mince Pie Run entered my head a few years ago when I used to take keep fit classes.
“Around January time when I restarted my class after the Christmas break, some of my class would say ‘that’s the last piece of cake or mince pie I’m going to eat, I am really going to knuckle down and lose weight and get fit this year‘.
“It happened every year and I bet you have heard people say the same if not similar.
“We want people to turn up, take part, really eat their last mince pie before or after the race, choose their own distance, and run or walk the route with friends and family.”
All participants will receive a medal and New Year’s resolution certificate.
Racers will also be given their ‘last’ mince pie of the festive season to celebrate completing the route and kickstart their New Year’s resolutions after eating it.
The run will go ahead at North Inch Park in Perth.
‘Everyone is welcome’
The race kicks off at 11am and there will be a rolling start. The race will be between 1km and 5km long and you can choose how long you go for.
Terry continues: “People can turn up from 11am and start from there. People aren’t racing against each other, but against themselves.
“Everyone is welcome. It’s never too late to start getting yourself fit and healthy for the next year.
“January 2 is a great day to do it. It’s the first day after the festive break and before people start to go back to work.
“It gives people the chance to come along and do something on the day.
“We’re looking forward to everyone coming along and getting the ball rolling for the year ahead.”
It costs £5 to enter the race, or £4 for concession tickets.
