For some, going to a salon or getting a spa treatment is a treat; for others, it’s essential in maintaining their physical and mental wellbeing.

With the cost of living crisis meaning many having to cut back, you may be looking for more affordable options when it comes to your favourite massages and facials.

Or, with the festive season approaching, perhaps you’re looking for the perfect gift to treat a loved one to, without breaking the bank.

Whatever the occasion, we’re bringing you some of the most affordable health, beauty and spa treatments in Dundee.

1. Jessica’s Room

Jessica’s Room can be found at 30 Park Avenue, not far from Baxter Park.

Owner, Laura Adams, who was previously a nurse and care home manager, opened the beauty salon in 2021.

It is also open to clients with additional needs and learning disabilities.

According to Laura: “When the Idea of Jessica’s Room was developing in my head it was important that people from all walks of life with or without disabilities would be able to access the treatments I offer.”

The salon offers a range of services, from massages and facials to reflexology and reiki.

A simple 20-minute lymphatic facial massage costs £15, while a back, neck and shoulder massage with or without hot stones is £25.

A 30-minute reiki session costs £20 and waxing packages start at £5. Brow and eyelash treatments range from £10 to £40, as do manicures and pedicures.

2. Butterfly Effect Holistic Centre

Butterfly Effect Holistic Centre is on West Wynd in Dundee, just off Perth Road.

Treatments start at £22.50 for toenail care treatment, where nails will be sprayed and cleansed, trimmed and filed, and finally buffed.

A 30-minute reflexology session on the hands or feet costs £30. The salon’s 30-minute holistic massage, Indian head massage and classical facial which cleanses and tones is £35.

Other services are available if you would like to spend more or make treatments longer.

They also have a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, which is used to speed up the healing of infections in which tissues are starved for oxygen, wounds and other conditions.

A 30-minute session costs £25.

3. Serenity Spa Massage and Holistic Therapies

This salon is located at 86 Brook Street in Broughty Ferry and offers a variety of massages, facials, nail packages and face masks.

A 30-minute Thai foot reflexology session, leg and foot massage and Indian head massage costs £28.

For £29, you can get a 30-minute Swedish massage or eastern body deep tissue massage. You can make the massages longer for an additional fee.

Facials range from £31 for a cleanse, tone and moisturise, to £49 for a luxury facial and a manicure.

Nail polish applications start at just £6 and the salon also does a daily deal in which a treatment is discounted for a handful of people.

4. The Bamboo Room

The Bamboo Room can be found at 407 Blackness Road in Dundee. Owner Gwen is a retired police officer and opened the salon after a 30-year-long career in the force.

it specialises in massages, and is the perfect place to go to relax and get pampered.

Massages start at £20 for a 30-minute acupressure massage of the back, neck and shoulders, to stimulate and balance the flow of energy throughout the body.

A Swedish massage will cost £35, and a warm bamboo massage – which uses heated bamboo sticks to break down tension and stretch muscles – costs £38.

A 60-minute full-body aromatherapy massage using essential oils also costs £38. It aims to reduce tension and promote feelings of calm and deep relaxation.

5. Evermore

If you’re looking to get your brows or lashes done ahead of Christmas party season, Evermore is the place to go.

Located on Gray Street in Broughty Ferry, Evermore is owned by Laura Kennedy and opened during the Covid pandemic.

A brow wax, brow tint or lash tint costs £13.50, or you can do all three in one go for £30.

A lash lift, which makes your lashes look fuller, longer and thicker, costs a bit more at £50.

The salon also provides waxing at a reasonable rate, with prices starting at £10 for lip and chin waxing, or £15 for both. They also wax underarms, legs and intimate areas.
