A once plain Milnathort bungalow built in the mid 1990s has been transformed into a stunning luxury home.
Beechwood Park, on Old Perth Road, was bought by Peter and Charlotte Giacopazzi in 2013. The couple immediately set about an ambitious expansion of the home that would increase its footprint from a little over 200 sqm to upwards of 530 sqm.
“We added extensions onto the front and side, and expanded up into the roof space,” Peter, 40, explains. “We built the attic space to passive house standards. It wasn’t possible to retrofit the downstairs part of the house to that level but we added insulated plasterboard throughout, which has made a big difference. It’s a very cosy house.”
Peter owns a construction firm, The Good House Company, which builds small developments of new homes. He’s a joiner by trade and did most of the work on Beechwood Park himself. “The business was really busy at that time so I did all of the work at evenings and weekends,” he continues. “It was pretty exhausting but worth it in the end.”
The couple knocked three rooms into one, creating an enormous open plan kitchen and family room, complete with wood burning stove. Stairs from there lead to a games room. There’s also a sitting room and dining room on the ground floor, as well as four bedrooms – three of them en suite – a boot room, family bathroom and integral garage.
Upstairs is an enormous master bedroom with dressing room and en suite, and a home office. The gardens stretch to two thirds of an acre and have fantastic views towards Loch Leven and Bishop Hill.
“We love the views here, and it’s a great party house – we’ve had some fantastic nights with friends here,” he says. “It’s in a fantastic location close to Loch Leven but in easy commuting distance to Edinburgh.
Peter grew up in Milnathort, and his grandfather founded the village supermarket. While many owners selling Beechwood Park would be downsizing, Peter and Charlotte are actually going bigger.
“We adopted two rescue ponies which are in a field in Milnathort,” he says. “We’ve bought an old stone house and 20 acres of land just outside the village. Our daughters are delighted they’ll be able to have their ponies there with them.”
