Mitsubishi has revamped its Mirage supermini for 2020, with a new look, extra technology and a smarter interior.
The most obvious changes are on the outside of the updated Mirage, with a completely new front end getting Mitsubishi’s ‘Dynamic Shield’ look, complete with new grille, and some fancy new LED headlights.
At the back the bumper is chunkier and there are LED lights, as well as a new set of 15in alloy wheel.
Customers can also choose from two new colour choices: White Diamond and Sand Yellow. Mitsubishi says the new LED lights improve visibility at nighttime.
In the cabin, the Mirage has been given a more elegant design. The front armrests have been improved and soft-touch cloth has also been fitted.
There is a faux carbon fibre instrument panel surround, soft cloth materials and more expensive models will introduce synthetic leather upholstery.
The updated Mirage will be available with Mitsubishi’s new Smartphone Display Audio (SDA) system with a seven-inch touchscreen.
The SDA system offers full smartphone connectivity including Bluetooth hands-free calling and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
When it comes to what’s under the bonnet, the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine with 79bhp remains, although this was fettled with earlier in 2019 to comply with WLTP real-world driving emissions regulations. It produces 107g/km of CO2 and will return 60.1mpg.
Emissions regulations mean it’s harder and harder for car companies to turn a profit on superminis, where the margins are very tight.
To help get round this, the new Mirage will be a global model, with only slight variations from country to country.
That means final UK specifications have not yet been confirmed. It will go on sale in early 2020, though, and expect a slight increase on the £11,295 price tag of the current model.
