BMW is introducing plug-in hybrid options for its X1 and X2 SUVs.
The plug-in petrol-electric combo can do between 33 and 35 miles on battery power alone, meaning the majority of journeys can be completed without wasting a drop of petrol.
Power comes from a 1.5 litre, 125hp petrol engine augmented by a 95hp electric motor.
The petrol engine drives the front wheels, through a six-speed automatic gearbox, with the electric motor powering the rear, giving four-wheel traction.
Charging takes around five hours using an ordinary household socket.
Standard equipment includes 17in alloy wheels, LED headlights and dual zone climate control.
Prices for the X1 hybrid start at £38,200, with details for the X2 still to be confirmed.
