The hardtop version of Mazda’s MX-5 will make its European debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June.
Its metal folding hard top can be dropped in just 12 seconds and you can be creeping along at up to 6mph while the mechanism operates.
The roof stows away behind the seats so boot space is unaffected. Just as well, given there was only 130 litres of space to play with in the first place.
The RF (which stands for Retractable Fastback) is only 5mm taller than the fabric roof model and should weigh no more than 50kg extra.
It will be offered with the same 1.5 and 2.0 litre petrol engines as its soft top sibling.
It’s due in the UK next year. There’s no word yet on prices but expect a premium of around £2,500.
