It’s safe to say the Fiesta has been a titanic success.
Britain’s best selling car of all time, this sixth generation model is almost universally acclaimed as a fantastic driver’s car.
Now Ford has released a couple of snazzy special editions. The Black and White editions get contrasting colour combinations to make them stick out from the pack.
I spent a week with the White Edition. It comes with Ford’s excellent 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine.
It’s a sharp looking car. The white body is contrasted with “panther black” alloy wheels that look very good indeed, and the roof is coloured black as well.
The two-tone aesthetic treatment is carried on by the interior as well, combining the hues Ford calls Midnight Black and Crystal White.
Even the steering wheel, gear knob and interior door handles carry the colour scheme over. It’s quite impressive attention to detail from Ford.
The White Edition is based on the Titanium grade Fiesta, which means it’s well equipped.
Buying one will set you back £15,345, and my test car came with satellite navigation and heated front seats, bringing the price up by £575.
That 1.0 litre engine is a terrific little unit with a power output that belies its small size.
Its 100hp is enough to get it from 0-62mph in 11.2 seconds and it returns an impressive 65.7mpg on the combined cycle, making it terrifically frugal.
Its light weight gives the car a significant handling advantage over the heavier diesel-engine Fiestas, which can feel a touch nose heavy during tight cornering.
It’s a calm unit at motorway speeds and, combined with strong refinement and noise suppression, makes the Fiesta one of the best superminis for carrying out long commutes in.
The only issue you can really raise about the Fiesta is too many people own one. These special editions mean yours will be distinctive.
