It’s the fastest speed ever recorded in the car – whose creation was famously ordered by Hitler – and was set at the World of Speed event at Lake Bonneville in Utah.
The Volkswagen Beetle LSR is a factory-modified car which was recorded at a record 205mph at Bonneville’s Salt Flats. LSR stands for Land Speed Record, so there’s no questioning the motive behind the car.
Thanks to Land Speed regulations, there’s only a certain amount of modification allowed for the car to still qualify as a Beetle – so more features of the standard car have been retained than you might think.
