BMW has released full pictures and details of its new X3.
The third generation SUV will cost around £4,500 more than the outgoing model but the German car maker says it offers better quality and more technology.
The X3 will go on sale in November priced from £38,880 with top-spec models commanding a £51,280.
Expect a range-topping M model and a fully electric model with a range of 250 miles to up the price even more later this year.
If you’re having trouble telling the difference between the old and new models you’re not the only one.
BMW has shifted more than 1.5 million X3s since the original was launched 14 years ago. Little wonder they’re loath to risk a winning formula by doing anything too dramatic on the styling front.
What they have done is incrementally increase size – the new version is about the same size as the original X5, which shows how much cars have grown – and reduce overall weight by a useful 55kg.
There new “M” performance model has a 355bhp turbocharged six cylinder petrol engine.
Of much more mainstream interest are the 2.0 litre 187bhp and 3.0 litre 261bhp diesel engines. A smaller petrol engine will join the range later.
The interior now features tech like the 10.2-inch iDrive infotainment system with gesture control, a new multifunction leather steering wheel and cleverly designed extra storage space.
All models come with LED headlamps, a full leather interior and alloy wheels as standard.
Options including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, full-colour head-up display, three-zone climate control and ambient lighting.
Rear passengers benefit from extra legroom but boot space remains unchanged at 550 litres.
