Ford has launched a scrappage scheme, offering customers £2,000 to trade in cars more than seven years old.
Unlike schemes by BMW and Mercedes, which are only for diesels, Ford will also accept petrol cars.
Ford said all of the part-exchanged vehicles will be scrapped, having an immediate effect on air quality. Owners can get rid of any pre-Euro 5 diesel or petrol cars of any make and model registered before December 2009. In return they get at least £2,000 cash off a brand new, Euro 6 Fiesta, Focus or Transit. The deal also extends to the B-Max, C-Max and Kuga.
The Mondeo, Galaxy and Edge are not included in the offer.
