When we buy an estate car we look for carrying capacity, comfort…and the ability to tow a lycra-clad man on skis.
Former Olympic skier Graham Bell, who picked up the sport in the Cairngorms, shot into the record books after being towed at an astonishing 117mph by a Jaguar XF Sportbrake.
The four-wheel drive Jaguar hauled the brave skier up to the death-defying speed at the company’s Revi test centre in the Arctic Circle.
Incredibly, the marketing stunt saw Bell break the existing ski tow record by no less than 47mph – in temperatures of minus 28 degrees.
It’s been verified as an official world record by Guinness for fastest speed towed on skis.
Jeremy Hicks, Jaguar Land Rover UK MD, said: “The XF Sportbrake’s superb traction, handling and high speed stability made it the perfect choice for this speed record attempt.
“It’s this kind of trail-blazing activity that really tests our cars to their limits.”
