Lexus may ditch traditional pedals altogether if a new concept car from the Japanese manufacturer is anything to go by.
Steering wheel mounted accelerator and brakes are just one of the technologies showcased on the LF-1 Limitless.
On display at the Detroit Auto Show, it also supports full autonomous technology with a built-in “chauffeur mode”.
The car’s onboard computer can work out where to stop for fuel and when to take rest breaks. It can even book a hotel for you.
Dials and buttons have been replaced with motion-activated controls and rear passengers have acres of legroom. Under the bonnet there’s scope for hydrogen and hybrid versions.
The concept will eventually be toned down to replace the current RX, one of the firm’s biggest selling models.
