Hot hatches used to be all the rage. But now, it seems, hot SUVs are where it’s at.
The latest is Volkswagen’s T-Roc R. It comes with a 2.0 litre, 296bhp turbocharged petrol engine, standard 4Motion all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox.
It is an astonishingly fast little SUV, with 0-62mph coming up in just 4.9 seconds. Top speed, for safety and common sense reasons, is limited to 155mph.
A body kit, huge alloy wheels and no fewer than four exhaust pipes will make bystanders aware this is no ordinary SUV.
You can even specify an exhaust that is both lighter and louder if you really want to annoy the neighbours.
As with the other cars on this page, it’ll be on display at the Geneva Motor Show. Prices are yet to be announced.
