The new Renault Clio is on sale now – and it’s cheaper than the next-generation Vauxhall Corsa.

Starting from £14,275, the Clio is priced around £1,250 below the new entry-level Vauxhall Corsa, which went on sale last week, and is £1,700 less than the Ford Fiesta.

The new model is built on a brand-new platform and offers higher levels of refinement and luxury, as well as improved technology.

It gained a five-star Euro NCAP score and is available with a large range of driver assistance systems.

Four engines are offered in the line-up, three petrol and a diesel. The entry level SCe75 carries the lowest price tag, while the turbocharged TCe100 costs £1,000 more.

Renault expects the TCe100 to be the best seller. It emits 99g/km of CO2 and can achieve 62.1mpg.

A more powerful TCe130 is also available, with emissions of 118g/km. It comes exclusively with automatic transmission. Only one diesel version is offered. Priced from £17,295, the dCi 85 is the most frugal car in the range, emitting 94g/km and achieving 73.6mpg.

The entry level Play version comes with full LED headlamps, cruise control, DAB radio and a two-inch multimedia screen with Bluetooth support.

The firm’s ‘ADAS’ safety technology suite comes at no cost, featuring lane departure warning, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking and traffic sign recognition.

The £15,295 Iconic grade has an updated seven-inch infotainment system, smartphone support, leather steering wheel, rear parking sensors, 16in diamond cut alloys, LED front fog lamps and dark-tinted rear windows.

The Clio S edition – pricing to be confirmed – adds a 7.3in display behind the steering wheel, 9.3in infotainment screen, rear electric windows, and auto wipers and headlights

The range topping R.S. Line has a sports styling package, selectable drive and rear-view camera for £17,795.
