Convertible SUVs are thin on the ground and don’ tend to do well – Land Rover’s Evoque Convertible was not a success.
Volkswagen is giving it a go, however, launching a convertible version of its smallest SUV.
The T-Roc Cabriolet is scheduled for a spring 2020 sale date and should cost from around £28,000.
It comes with a fabric roof that folds away in around nine seconds at speeds of up to 19mph. When not in use it stores in the boot – though at the expense of space back there.
The T-Roc Cabriolet loses two doors to achieve its svelte shape, meaning rear passengers have to fold the front seats forward and clamber into the back.
In the event of an accident, rollover protection hoops spring up from behind the rear seats in a fraction of a second. l
