TV presenter Lorraine Kelly’s former home in Broughty Ferry has gone on sale with a £1 million price tag.
Described as one of the finest houses in Broughty Ferry, Melfort is a seven bedroom detached house in generous garden grounds.
Lorraine Kelly moved into the property on Duntrune Terrace in 2010 with her husband Steve Smith and their daughter Rosie.
The 63-year old presenter sold it eight years later and moved to the south of England to be closer to London for her television work.
Speaking at the time, Kelly said she decided to sell after becoming tired of the weekly commute between Dundee and London.
Selling up
She said: “Steve and I want to be together a bit more but that’s not to say we won’t go home a lot as all our friends and family live up there.
“Dundee is home but we wanted to move somewhere closer to work because getting up at 3.45 in the morning, every single minute counts.
“For years I’ve been travelling up and down from our home in Dundee to London to do my show.
“Not only has it been exhausting, we’ve really missed each other.”
Built in 1927, Melfort was designed in an Arts & Crafts style by George C Morton of Bruce, Morton & Son architects.
The house is spread over three floors and has an integral garage.
Both Lorraine and the current owners have modernised Melfort while retaining traditional features such as its beautiful wood panelling and carvings.
Modernised
The new owners added a fantastic games room and enlarged one of the main bedrooms.
The kitchen has been refurbished. Wood flooring added to several rooms and the heating system has been upgraded. New electric gates have been installed and the garden has been landscaped.
The ground floor has a drawing room, sitting room, dining room, and kitchen with French doors to the garden. There’s also a huge games room.
The sitting room and dining room both have wood burning stoves. Meanwhile, the kitchen is warmed by a large AGA.
The back hall contains a breakfast room themed as an American diner.
On the first floor is a principal bedroom with en suite, four more double bedrooms and a family bathroom.
Two of the first floor bedrooms are used as dressing rooms and a third as a reading room.
At attic level there are two more bedrooms and a bathroom.
The gardens stretch to just under three quarters of an acre. Well screened by walls and mature trees, they’re fantastic for children and dogs. A fish pond is spanned by a curved wooden bridge.
Lorraine Kelly paid £775,000 for Melfort in 2010 and sold it eight years later for £845,000.
Its current owners have put it on the market for £1 million, and it has a home report value of £1,150,000.
