Video technology is being used to allow pregnant women to share the thrill of their baby scan with locked-out partners.
A no-visiting policy put in place across NHS Tayside during Covid-19 has meant mums-to-be are alone during the ultrasound check.
The health body’s obstetric and gynaecology department has now introduced a new way of working which records the scan as it is happening.
The ultrasound recording is then played back to women who can use their mobile phone to create a video which can then be shared with partners.
Mum-to-be Lisa Small said, “Being able to record the scan has made a huge difference as I can now go home and show what I’ve seen because you really can’t describe it.
“I was really excited when I was told I could do this as I couldn’t at my last scan.”
Midwife sonographer, Lorna Coventry said: “We have had a very positive response from mums to this new service.
“It’s a worrying time not being able to share scans with partners so this makes a huge difference to them. We are delighted that we can give people this opportunity whilst still keeping everyone safe.”
