SPONSORED: Abertay University’s Open Day is coming October 31

Abertay University shares more information about its upcoming Open Day on 31 October.

You’ve probably watched with a heavy heart other people’s children not quite having the start to university life that others have had in previous years.

And you’ve possibly put yourself in in their shoes – what would you do and what would you tell your soon-to-be-leaving-school child if they were looking at going to university next year?

A university education is a great thing: it prepares you for a professional career and with a degree you’re more attractive to an employer. By the time school-leavers starting university next year graduate, the world will be a lot brighter.

The challenge is that there’s a huge group of school leavers who simply do not know what they’d like to do or where they’d like to go, who are faced with making some big life decisions as the UCAS application deadline looms. That’s normal. And it’s probably as stressful for you as it is for them.

Head to Abertay University’s Open Day on 31 October 10am-1pm

Encourage your child to set aside a couple of hours for Abertay’s online Open Day. You’re welcome to go online and attend too.

An Open Day gives students the opportunity to figure out what it is they’d actually like to study. Or, if they know what subject area they enjoy, help them narrow down a bit further to which degree they’d like to pursue. It also has key information about the application process, funding, support on campus and student life.

It’s good for you to know about it too.

As much as they may not let on, your opinion matters and what you think about the university path they choose is important to them.

Abertay University is a small university with huge personality that can help clear the fog of indecision. They do that by offering a tight-knit, supportive community that has students at the heart.

Sometimes bigger isn’t always better. Indeed Abertay’s smaller size in comparison to other universities is actually a key strength. Smaller class size enables students to integrate quickly with their peers and their academic staff, providing them the biggest base for support.

Abertay’s recent award of “UK University of the Year for Teaching Quality” by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021 is testament to their dedication to their students. And let’s face it, they must know what they’re talking about as they voted Dundee the “Best Place to Live in Scotland” last year too. (Yes, we’re writing from Dundee).

Work-ready degrees

In difficult times, picking what you study has never been more important. Abertay University is a modern university where you graduate ready to go in to the world of work.

Abertay’s degrees are focused on the practical with strong industry links and many with built in work placements to complement classroom learning.

It’s not uncommon for Abertay graduates to be offered full-time employment from their placement provider and indeed a whopping 95% of their graduates are in employment or further education within just six months of graduating.

Dundee is a student city

Given that you’re from around here, you’ll probably already know that Dundee is a vibrant wee city. The development of Dundee in recent years has been a breath of fresh air with the ongoing uplift at the waterfront.

And we’re not the only ones taking it in.

Students from all around the world choose to study in Dundee and call it home. In fact, Abertay is represented by 66 nationalities in their current student body. That’s some variety of people. Have you wondered why?

Is it the tight knit community? The boutique bars and restaurants popping up everywhere? Is it the close-by countryside? Is it the affordability compared to some of the big hitting cities?

It’s probably a blend of them all.

A local student has all this with the added bonus of their folks being just up the road. (Via Clarkies, obviously).

So, if you’re looking for a place to start, get yourself over to Abertay’s website and encourage your child to register for its Virtual Open Day. They’ll receive a link that they can share with you to join the event or you could sign up yourself if you prefer

It’s really easy to remember.

It’s on Halloween.
