A man who was found dead after a local flat went up in flames did not die in the fire, police have said.
The body of Thomas McLeish was discovered as emergency workers attended a fire at St Catherine’s Square on Sunday November 18.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the 45-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have now confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr McLeish’s death.
James Hughes is due to appear in court again today on a charge of wilful fire-raising.
Hughes made no plea and was remanded in custody when he initially appeared in the dock last week.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Investigations into the fire at St Catherine’s Square in Perth on Sunday November 18 have established that the man did not die as a result of the fire.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of the man.
