A councillor and ex-teacher who was caught with footage of child sex abuse has been placed on the sex offenders register for three years.
Former Rotary Club president Michael Jamieson was also banned from having any deliberate contact with children under 16 after he admitted downloading child porn.
Jamieson, who also fronted a major Childline Scotland charity concert, was banned from using the internet without the express approval of social workers.
He was also ordered to carry out 180 hours unpaid work. Perth Sheriff Court heard Jamieson had been a pillar of society who had suffered a spectacular fall from grace.
Sheriff William Wood told Jamieson: “As someone who has been very prominent in the community one way or another, this will have caused you a distinct amount of embarrassment.”
The home of the retired music teacher – which he shared with his long-term partner – was raided by seven police officers.
Jamieson was suspended and then quit his seat on Perth and Kinross Council following his arrest after being elected last May.
The 69-year-old, of Buchan Drive, Perth, admitted making indecent images of children at his home between August 8 2014 and April 28 2016.
He also admitted possessing indecent images during the same period.
The images were assessed as falling into three categories of severity, including the most serious.
