A teenager has appeared in court accused of murdering a man during a Christmas dinner party.
Jakub Kmieciak is alleged to have stabbed Rafal Rymarkiewicz to death with a knife at a Perth flat in the city on Saturday evening.
Police officers were called to a flat in Wallace Court shortly before 11pm on December 23 following reports of a disturbance.
They discovered Mr Rymarkiewicz, 34, at a property there.
He had suffered serious injuries and an ambulance was called.
Mr Rymarkiewicz was taken to hospital where medical staff were unable to save his life and he was pronounced dead in the early hours of Christmas Eve.
Streets in Perth’s Tulloch area were cordoned off as a murder investigation began and CID officers arrived.
The major investigation team took charge of the operation, with the activity leaving many local people shocked.
Senior police officers moved to reassure the local community there was no threat to the wider public and the incident had been “contained”.
Within hours, Police Scotland reported a 19-year-old man had been detained and then charged in connection with the incident.
Kmieciak appeared in private at the city’s sheriff court yesterday on a petition alleging murder.
He is alleged to have assaulted Mr Rymarkiewicz and struck him on the body with a knife and murdered him at an address in Wallace Court on December 23.
Kmieciak, of Malcolm Court, Perth, made a brief appearance before Sheriff Gillian Wade to confirm his name and address through an interpreter.
He made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination.
No application was made for bail and Kmieciak was remanded in custody.
He will remain in Perth Prison until a second court appearance in the new year.
