A man placed a woman in a head-lock and restricted her breathing, Dundee Sheriff Court heard.
Robert Shand, 35, carried out the attack at a home in Carnoustie.
Shand, of Ravensby Road, Carnoustie, also grabbed the woman by the face, spat in her face and pulled clumps of hair from her head.
Fiscal depute Saima Rasheed told the court the incident took place on November 7 last year after Shand arrived at the property around 10pm having been drinking beforehand.
The fiscal said: “An argument broke out between the accused and the complainer. She went to the bedroom and he followed. He pushed her, causing her to fall against the wall, and pushed her a second time.
“She left the room and he followed her and grabbed her head, placing her in a head-lock, causing her to struggle for breath.”
The woman pushed him off and ran to the living room but Shand followed her and grabbed her, again placing her in a head-lock then pushing her to the ground.
The woman phoned police but as she was calling Shand snatched the phone from her and hung up.
He then grabbed her by the face, pinned her to a seat and spat on her face.
Police arrived shortly after and found both Shand and the woman in an upset state and she was missing clumps from her hair.
Neil Beardmore, defending, told the court there were underlying issues with alcohol.
Shand admitted assaulting a woman to her injury at a property in Carnoustie on November 7 last year.
He admitted committing the offence by repeatedly seizing her by the head and body, repeatedly pushing her against walls and furniture, pinning her to a bed, repeatedly placing her in a head-lock restricting her breathing, pulling her to the ground and pinning her on the ground, pulling a telephone from her grasp, seizing her hair and pulling it from her head, pinning her to a seat and spitting on her face, all to her injury.
Sentence was deferred until December 2 for reports.
