A lorry has smashed into a historic Angus landmark.
The vehicle hit the 19th Century Dalhousie Arch in Edzell on Thursday afternoon.
Police have closed the main road into Edzell following the crash on Thursday afternoon.
It is understood the lorry hit the arch while passing through at around 2.15pm.
The extent of the damage is not yet known.
Nobody has been injured and a diversion, via Inchbare, is in place while the B996 is closed.
Road closed
Police say the road is likely to be closed for “some time”.
One Edzell resident said on Thursday afternoon: “The road at the arch is currently closed and police are in attendance.
“Traffic is being diverted into the village via Inchbare.
“Whatever is the cause of the damage I really hope it can be repaired.
Earl of Dalhousie
The Dalhousie Arch spans the road into Edzell village from the south.
Erected in 1887, it commemorates the 13th Earl of Dalhousie John William Ramsay, and his wife, who died within hours of each other from different causes.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.15pm, police received a report of a lorry hitting an archway in Edzell.
“There are no reports of any injuries, however, the arch has been damaged. The road is currently closed with a diversion in place.”
