Strathallan School Big Sing 2022

The Big Sing 🎶

Strathallan School proudly presents this year's Big Sing 🎤🎸🥁🎶Our whole school came together for a unique performance of 'You're the Voice' by John Farnham 🥰

Hundreds of children and young people from the independent school’s prep school to its sixth formers gathered in the school grounds to sing and play the rousing anthem which reached number six in the UK singles chart in 1986.

Drone footage shows the school assembled on the lawn for the 2022 Strathallan School Big Sing.

With Strathallan School Pipe Band providing the backbone to the performance, there are also musicians on electric guitar, brass and strings, and several pupils sing stunning solos.

Rugby and hockey teams even get in on the action on the pitches, the netball and tennis teams on court, swimmers in the pool and even pupils with rifles in the shooting range.

The performance was directed by the school’s music director Jason McAuley and follows the success of the first Big Sing last year, when 550 Strathallan School pupils performed The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics.

Mr McAuley said it was inspired by his refusal to accept talk of the post-Covid ‘new normal’, which he said was not sustainable for music.

How the track was recorded

He said: “It was more important than ever to enable our young people to participate in music.”

Describing the reaction to last year’s performance as “wonderful”, he said: “We had to do it again this year.

“All the music played was performed by our talented young people.

“We recorded the music track in advance over a few weeks with various groups participating – rock bands, orchestra and choirs.

“I wanted to feature all the activities we have going on in school, so we took down cameras and mics to the sports training sessions and recorded many pupils who would not normally be involved in music making.

“Finally, we got the whole school together for the rest of the video. It was pouring with rain that day, but the clouds cleared for 20 minutes and we got the shots we needed.”
