“We sent one appliance from Blackness Road and the fire was quickly put out using buckets of water.”
Councillors: ‘This is disappointing’
West End councillors Fraser Macpherson and Michael Crichton have condemned the vandalism as disappointing.
Mr Macpherson said: “This clearly looks to be vandalism. It is really disappointing to see this damage happening as the council tax payer will have to pick up the cost of this being repaired.
“My ward colleague Councillor Michael Crichton and I have contacted the city engineer to ensure that repairs are undertaken as soon as possible.”
Mr Crichton added: “Councillor Macpherson and I have also contacted the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to thank them for putting this fire out before it caused greater damage.
“Even so, there are repairs needing to be undertaken to the walkway and we have asked that these are urgently undertaken by the City Council.”
