A super-fit Tayside mother is to subject herself to a small screen “living post mortem” revealing the secrets beneath her skin.

Marie Ladbrook from Montrose is a subject in a television programme which aims to prove it is never too late to make potentially lifesaving lifestyle changes.

Between fitness sessions, the Angus mother-of-two runs her youngest son to school in his buggy but the programme will uncover the toll of a busy lifestyle, lack of sleep and more than ten cups of coffee a day.

Marie’s busy lifestyle with sons Brodie, 8, and Logan, 2, will be contrasted with that of Airdrie 31-year-old Ryan O’Connor, who loves soft drinks and takeaways.

Ryan spends up to 15 hours a day in front a computer screen, guzzling up to four litres of soft drinks a day.

Dr Punam Krishan takes the two volunteers through their paces to find out their crucial health achilles heel and determine a programme to see if it can be turned around.

The full health MOT includes blood tests, urine analysis, fitness tests and lifestyle diaries which are collated together to build up a picture of their wellbeing from the inside out.

Each volunteer is then “laid bare” on a slab, effectively having a living post-mortem as Dr Krishan reveals the damage they are doing to themselves, both now and for the future.

A team of medics give the programme’s guinea pigs a tailored health plan to turn things around.

Marie said: “It is good that the series isn’t a stereotypical health series but shows you people who would appear to be healthy and finds out what is really going on.”

A top sleep expert is one of the professionals called in to give life-changing advice to Marie.

Lifestyle medicine expert and health blogger Dr Krishan said: “Modern life is complex and busy, and the choices we make on a daily basis affect our health over the course of our lives.

“Each episode features people doing their best to navigate modern life, and through their experience we can all pick up tips on how to eat healthier, get better sleep, and change bad habits.”

Laid Bare airs on BBC One on Thursday at 9pm.
