A gambling addict who stole £4,000 worth of National Lottery scratchcards to feed his habit has been ordered to carry out unpaid work for the “significant breach of trust”.
Andrew Ashfield was employed at a Montrose garage at the time of the offence and Forfar Sheriff Court heard any winnings from the haul were ploughed straight back in to other forms of gambling.
The 28-year-old, of Lower Craig Street, Montrose, pleaded guilty to stealing the cards between October 24 and November 24 last year, while working at Guthrie Brothers in North Esk Road.
Sheriff Gregor Murray ordered Ashfield to carry out 165 hours of unpaid work under a 12-month community payback order.
