A DJ’s festive plans have been spiked by a sheriff who put him on an electronic tag following a bizarre revenge threat over the egging of his van.
Allan Gegan followed a pair of girls, one aged just 15, around Brechin after tracking them down over the vandalism to the vehicle in May.
He told one of the girls he would use her father’s false leg to clean up the damage.
The 43-year-old’s lawyer made a bid for his client to be spared a restriction of liberty order so he could continue his mobile disco during the party season but that was rejected by a sheriff because of the “alarming” nature of the offence.
Appearing before Sheriff Derek Reekie at Forfar, Gegan, of River Street, Brechin admitted behaving in a threatening manner towards two females on May 15 and making threats of violence.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond said eggs, flour and black hairspray had been put on Gegan’s van in a “prank” two days before.
The two females were walking in the street when Gegan stopped and shouted to one of the girls: “Your dad is getting it first.”
The fiscal added: “He then stopped beside them a short time later and they became aware he appeared to be following them in his vehicle.
“They were both intimidated at this time by his actions.”
The pair were at a house in the town and called police, who arrived and saw the accused turning his van outside.
“He drove off but was found parking in the next street and said he had taken the wrong turn,” the fiscal said.
Defence solicitor Nick Markowski said: “There was a prank, the van was vandalised and when he saw the girls he felt they were laughing at him rather than simply laughing.
“It then escalated. The complainer’s father has a prosthetic leg and the threat was he would use it to clean the van.
“He was operating as a kind of a man with a van but has not been able to do that because he had a hand operation.
“It was felt he wasn’t able to do unpaid work but he is keen not to have a restriction of liberty order since he also does DJ work and this time of year is busy.”
Sheriff Reekie said: “I sympathise with you having your vehicle dealt with in that way, however matters were resolved by having the youngsters come and clean it and thereafter you’ve pursued them in some way.
“Clearly it would have been alarming for them and that’s obviously what your intention was.”
Gegan was placed on a 7pm to 7am tag for 80 days.
