Neil Wares, 44, of Peffers Place, Forfar, was placed on a nine-month community payback order with supervision, and made the subject of a one-year non harassment order.
He previously admitted assaulting his former partner at a house in Graham Crescent, Forfar on February 27.
Forfar Sheriff Court court heard the incident developed after the woman told Wares their relationship was over on Valentine’s Day.
