A last-minute rallying call has been made for daring locals to start their 2020 with a dip in the Angus sea. Arbroath and Carnoustie will host New Year’s Day dooks, with Red Lichties first to take the plunge beside the town harbour at 2.30pm. The Cancer Research UK fundraiser is sponsored by Tuttie’s Neuk Inn and entry of £15 includes a special dook T-shirt. At 3pm, the traditional kick of a rugby ball into the North Sea waves will signal the start of the 2020 Carnoustie event. Entry is £5 per person, with donations going to Ninewells’ chemotherapy unit. Prizes include best fancy dress and the participant who stays in the water the longest.
