Police are following a “positive line of enquiry” after a boy was assaulted.
The incident happened at the drop-off point outside the Abbeygate Shopping Centre and McColl’s between 8pm-8.30pm on Friday.
An 11-year-old boy was allegedly knocked off his bike and assaulted by a group of three other boys aged between 11 and 13.
He was repeatedly punched and kicked while on the ground until another group of around 10 teenagers intervened to help him.
Police said he was not badly injured.
A police spokesman said: “We are following a positive line of enquiry, however we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed all or part of this incident, and in particular we would like to speak with members of the group who came to the victim’s aid and prevented him being badly hurt.
“If you have any information that could assist our investigation, please call 101 or speak with any police officer. Also, information can be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
“Our reference is incident 3865 of 17th January.”
