Monifieth parents concerned over ‘dangerous’ bus route in residential street

Stagecoach 73 service bus.

Monifieth parents have raised concerns over a “dangerous” bus route through a quiet residential street.

Stagecoach cancelled 75 bus service, which ran from Ethiebeaton Park to Dundee, in February due to low usage.

But the axe meant the existing 73 route was reassessed and now travels hourly through Durham Street.

Concerned residents said the road is unsafe for double deckers with parked cars on each side and children from three nearby schools – Monifieth High, Seaview Primary, and Grange Primary – regularly access the street.

Julie-ann Geddes, 29, lives on the street with her husband Andy and young daughter.

She said: “Stagecoach say they’ve done risk assessments but I don’t see how that can be the case with so many kids here.

“It’s a 20 zone and buses are doing well over the speed limit and don’t slow for speed bumps.

“We thought this street would be safe for our children but now I’m starting to worry. I don’t want to sit around and wait for something to happen.”

A spokeswoman for Stagecoach East Scotland said: “On February 24 we withdrew service 75 from our network and replaced key sections with service 73 serving Grange Road, hourly during the day, Monday to Friday.

“This decision was approved by the local council to ensure existing passengers were still able to board and alight at Ferry Road.

“We are currently investigating the concerns raised and the safety of our community is our primary concern.”
