An Angus gym owner has loaned out thousands of pounds worth of equipment to help the public keep fit while in isolation.
The Warehouse Gym, based at Dens Road, Arbroath, was forced to temporarily close its doors on March 20.
Lee Page, who has owned the centre for 10 years, said he wanted to “give back” to loyal supporters during the difficult period.
The 48-year-old has since loaned a range of fitness gear to help members keep on top of their goals.
The equipment, ranging from weights to exercise bikes, cost more than £8,000 but it is a price worth paying for Lee, as he worried his clients’ mental health could be affected by the lack of exercise.
He is also continuing to run coaching sessions from home, with virtual exercise classes running up to five times each day.
He said: “I realised the situation with coronavirus was going to shut down business for a while so I wanted to do something to give back to members who have supported us.
“I told members to take equipment they needed home with them so they could participate in home workouts.
“Rather than just shutting my doors, I thought I would put my equipment to good use. We have a good community spirit at the gym so I trust every one of my members to look after the equipment.”
Lee said being a small gym, rather than a large chain, meant he was able to go the extra mile.
“Exercise will prove an important part of people’s lives during this time so if having equipment at home makes things easier then I’ve done my job,” he said.
“Working out can be essential for mental health and I hated the idea of anyone struggling because they can’t come to the gym.
“So many people have been thanking me and said I have gone above and beyond for them but I feel like we’re all in this together.”
Lee has now launched a full weekly schedule with a range of online classes on offer.
Non-members who would like to join the sessions, can contact Lee on Warehouse Gym Arbroath’s Facebook page.
