Baited bird traps have been found at an Angus beauty spot amidst a spate of lockdown rule-breaking.
Parks chiefs have also hit out at people having barbecues – one of which sparked a fire at Crombie – as well as vandalism and an attempted theft.
The seed-covered traps were found on the shore of Forfar Loch by a local at the weekend and have been branded a potential danger to young children walking around the popular spot.
Leisure body Angus Alive has repeatedly asked people not to drive to the area’s beauty spots and closed car parks at the various sites, but have kept the open spaces available for locals.
Cones were stolen from the closed-off Forfar Loch car park and a cairn there was damaged when the top of it was prised off in an attempt to steal a money box.
Country Parks operations lead, Alan Brennan said: “Obviously we are unable to close the parks completely.
“They are open spaces and we want people close by to access them on foot and enjoy all the benefits outdoor spaces can bring at this really difficult time.
“But we are really saddened and disappointed about these instances, which aren’t only disrespectful but also dangerous.
“I’m also disappointed to also find that thieves are looking to take advantage while our parks are closed.
“It’s not the right time to have barbeques and it’s important that we keep our parks in good shape so they are there to be enjoyed when we open up once again.”
Following the traps discovery, an Angus Alive spokesperson said: “This isn’t just criminal activity but is dangerous to public safety.
“We’re working with the wildlife crime liaison officer at Police Scotland to further investigate this and remove any traps to ensure the area is made safe.”
On the wider issue of lockdown restrictions, Police Scotland Angus area commander, Chief Inspector Wayne Morrison said: “The public’s response in Tayside has been excellent – the majority have accepted police advice and only on very rare occasions have officers had to issue warnings or take enforcement action.
“In line with the rest of the country, our patrols continue at key locations including beaches, dog walking areas, parks and other green spaces.
“I appreciate that as the restrictions persist and the weather continues to be so good, it may feel tempting to spend time more outdoors and to visit the countless beauty spots we are fortunate to have across Tayside.
“However the message is clear – you should only leave the house for very limited purposes.”
