An Angus schoolboy has scooped a starring role a new Dundee Science Centre animation exhibition after taking part in a home learning programme.
Ollie Hay, from Tannadice, near Forfar created a time-lapse animation in response to the centre’s Space Week activities programme.
The 11-year-old won a science kit bundle for his impressive submission and has now also been offered the chance for his work to feature in the Animation Station which will be part of the centre’s Connect development unveiled early 2021.
The Dundee Science Centre activities had been brought to Ollie’s attention by Tannadice Primary School as part of its drive to keep pupils engaged in science learning during lockdown.
He grasped the challenge by turning the family dining room into a workshop/film studio where he created a papier-mâché spaceship, Lego rocket and impressive ‘take-off’ in front of a Lego crowd.
His time-lapse video of more than 300 photos capturing the rocket launch impressed competition judges..
Lorraine Lemon, head of business and operations at Dundee Science Centre said: “Ollie’s entry took things to another level and we’re just amazed by what he’s produced with a vivid imagination and some impressive technical skills.”
Ollie said, “It’ll be amazing to let everyone else see my animation, and maybe get other children involved in animations too.”
Dundee Science Centre’s Home Learning Programme has enjoyed sign-ups from across Scotland in its effort to support parents and carers in home schooling with the free initiative.
