Dolphin delight as 78-year-old Val crosses finish line of 100-mile Angus fundraiser

Determined Angus OAP Val Laing has completed a 100-mile charity walk challenge in support of three local causes.

The 78-year-old widow did several miles a day along the cliff top path at Arbroath to raise funds for the Susan Carnegie centre at Stracathro, the ladies section of Arbroath Legion and Angus branch of the Black Watch Association, in memory of her late husband, Pete, who served with the regiment in Germany and Cyprus.

She thanked folk who had donated to her effort when they met her on the cliff path and enjoyed the sight of a pod of dolphins in Carlingheugh Bay on her final day this week.

Val returned to her sheltered housing home at Andy Stewart Court in the town to find a celebratory bottle of champagne from granddaughter Sam Woodburn and a congratulatory note from Angus Provost Ronnie Proctor, who was a Major in the Black Watch.
