A young Angus driver who hurt two pals after aquaplaning into a wall during a trip to McDonald’s has been fined by a sheriff.
Cameron Naismith, 20, lost control of his Volkswagen Polo after hitting a flooded part of the road on the A926 between Kirriemuir and Forfar in the early hours of February 22.
The car struck a wall, which left Naismith’s friends, brothers Sean and Ryan Harper, with injuries.
Naismith, of Grampian Crescent, Kirriemuir, had earlier pled guilty by letter to causing the incident and said it had been a “wake-up call”.
He admitted in the plea for Dundee Justice of the Peace court that he “felt sick” at the thought of potentially killing his friends.
Naismith said he was the designated driver on a night out and was travelling to a McDonald’s.
He admitted he was driving too fast but believed most of the water on the road had dried up.
He was ordered to make a personal appearance at Forfar JP court for sentencing in the case, where solicitor Michal Boyd presented a letter of support from the accused’s employers.
Sheriff Derek Reekie fined Naismith £500, with a £40 surcharge, and imposed six penalty points on his licence.
