An Arbroath singer and hairdresser who raised thousands for the NHS during lockdown will take to the stage on Saturday night.

Danny Laverty entertained his fans with weekly online concerts during the peak of the pandemic, raising more than £12,000 for NHS Tayside.

Now the 48-year-old has been invited to perform at the Webster Memorial Theatre.

Social distancing does not allow for a physical audience so the performance will be streamed live via the theatre’s Facebook page.

Danny said: “The response from the public has been amazing and many hundreds of people from far and wide including Alaska, Florida, France and the wider UK, have been tuning in on Saturday nights for some banter, personal requests, humorous stories and to listen to my wide range of music for all.

“What started from nothing has grown amazingly and I have now been performing continually for the past three months.

“From the feedback and comments from my shows it’s been great to hear they have been an uplifting experience for many throughout this extremely difficult time for all of us and in particular, for many who found themselves in lockdown alone”.

Audrey Hood, Angus Alive theatre manager, said: “We at Angus Alive recognise the immense popularity of Danny’s shows throughout lockdown, the physical and mental support provided in real terms to patients and carers in Tayside and in the wider community.

“We wanted to support this by providing Danny with the Webster Theatre after what has been an exhausting three months, with a live show, albeit, in an empty venue.”
