Two people were taken to hospital after a three-lorry crash on the A90 on Thursday afternoon.
The accident took place on the southbound lane of the dual carriageway near Fordoun in Aberdeenshire at about 12.50pm.
The incident led to a major response from the emergency services with police, fire and ambulance involved in the operation.
Fire appliances from Stonehaven, Laurencekirk and Montrose were sent to the scene, along with a heavy rescue unit.
Firefighters used cutting gear to free one of the lorry drivers who was then taken by air ambulance to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
A second person was transferred to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by road ambulance.
The southbound lanes of the A90 were completely closed for around two-and-a-half hours, before one of the lanes was reopened at around 3.30pm.
It led to major traffic delays as motorists were diverted into Fordoun.
A police spokesman said: “One driver got out of the lorry himself. Another lorry driver was trapped in his vehicle.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said the condition of both men was unknown.
He said: “Two casualties were have been taken to hospital.
“One has been flown to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and the other has been taken by road ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman said a total of four appliances were sent to the incident, along with the heavy rescue unit.
She said: “There was a report of three HGVs involved. One male driver was cut free by firefighters.”
